What Gardens are Eligible?
Any home garden maintained by the owner-gardener is eligible. Gardens may have been initially installed by a professional landscaper, but must have been maintained for at least five years by the owner. Gardens installed by the owner have no restrictions other than those listed below. The owner may have had help with garden maintenance, but has still participated in the garden's upkeep.
Who May Nominate a Garden?
A garden may be nominated by any garden club, or by any member of the Michigan Combined Consultants Council. The garden can be any size and of any scope, but the emphasis is on horticultural excellence.
Are the Gardens Judged?
Gardens are not judged but must be approved by a member of the Michigan Combined Consultants Council as having reached the following simple standards:
- A home garden
- Attractive
- Mature
- Well maintained
In the case of a Michigan Combined Consultant's Council memer nominating the garden, another member must approve the garden.
What is the procedure?
To recognize a garden send the owner-gardener's name, their address and upto seven photos representing the garden (photos will not be returned unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is included) along with a brief description of the garden. Please provide the name of the garden club or Michigan Combined Consultant Councils member who nominated the garden, the district in which the garden is located, and the name of a contact person within the garden club. It is imporant to include the name of the gardening consultant who approved the garden (not the same as the Michigan Combined Consultant Councils member who nominated the garden).
